In
the lush Savena valley there is a company that brought together other
businesses, thus becoming a global leader in process and packaging
technologies. Romaco, which specializes in the processing of pharmaceutical
products, supplies machinery, skill and vision. But everything revolves around
listening. For FARE INSIEME, Giampaolo Colletti interviewed Nicola Magriotis,

Everything is possible. You just need to believe in it. Then, of
course, you need skill, technology and people. You need an ingenious intuition
that must be cultivated over time. And even more. You need extreme dedication.
And also the capacity to build up a network. Because, after all, the recipe is
always the same. Teamwork which, in Bologna, rhymes with a globally-renowned
district that deals with packaging. Even China has figured this out. You don’t
believe me? Get ready to listen to the extraordinary story I am about to tell
you. Everything is possible, as I mentioned earlier. To understand this,
you just need to visit the lush Savena valley a stone’s throw from Pianoro, in
that Bologna metropolitan area that works with the entire world. This is where
an idea can turn into a business: linking the evolving local handicrafts with
the expanding market that was growing beyond national borders. Of course, to do
so, you needed courage to face your dreams and entrepreneurial risk, now
embodied by those companies forming the Emilian industrial fabric. Everything
is possible. Do you want proof? They were willing to cooperate right from
the start. And they communicated, even using the local dialect with foreign
clients and partners, or sketches on a piece of paper and those typical Italian
gestures. There it is, this is the story of Romaco, a company based in Bologna
but supported by a foreign investor, from China to be specific, and that
brought wealth to Italy.
Company
profile. Romaco designs and manufactures
machines destined mainly to foreign companies. The facility covers 14 thousand
sq m and it is a state-of-the-art hi-tech gem and home to two historic Italian
packaging brands - Macofar and Promatic. But it is much more than a facility.
The grounds also feature a bio-lake, a botanical garden with medical and
aromatic herbs and a series of hives to encourage pollination. “At the
basis of the brand new complex home to the company’s productive and commercial
activities we come across constant attention towards sustainability, with 5
thousand sq m of solar panels providing energy to the complex and numerous
other elements that help the day-to-day activities of Romaco collaborators.
Besides, there is the attention paid towards the well-being of people, whether
company collaborators or visiting clients,” reports Nicola Magriotis, Managing
Director at Romaco. The company is a global leader when it comes to packaging
technologies and processes and specializes in the processing of pharmaceutical
products. This means that it supplies machines, lines and complete solutions
for the production, filling and packaging of powders, granules, pellets,
tablets, capsules, sprays, liquid and medicinal products. “Our distinctive elements? Putting the client products
at the centre, working on solutions based on their needs and providing
assistance throughout the entire process and the life of the machinery,” explains
Magriotis. Romaco forms part of the Truking group which operates in the
technology sector and is based in Changsha, China. The European headquarters is
based in Germany.
The key competence is the design and
supply of complete lines and customised solutions for the primary and secondary
processing and packaging of pharmaceutical liquids and powders.
Every year, it invests 3% of its turnover in R&D, while 10% of the
people work on R&D full-time. These are incredible figures. “Our
distinctive element is the supply of complete and integrated lines. As regards
the future, we are working on technologies for the packaging of ophthalmic
products, on energy savings linked to the use of our machines, on digital
solutions for our machines and systems and on sustainable propositions for
decarbonisation in particular,” stresses Magriotis.
The winning recipe. Everything
is possible, especially when working as a team, even if on different teams.
After all, this is the winning recipe of that Emilia Valley made up of
districts increasingly connected to global markets, yet capable of generating
value by combining their ideas, businesses and people. Magriotis believes this
too. “We
work following the typical identity of our territory: we find ourselves at the
centre of a network of suppliers with whom we are in constant dialogue. In this
virtuous environment, success is always reciprocal and wealth is shared and
redistributed in the form of employment, technological innovation and ongoing
improvement. These companies developed alongside one another, they have grown
and they have contributed to their reciprocal development.” Everything
becomes possible where ideas and people meet.
