From the province of Bologna to the rest of the world. This is a story of a Bolognese company that is a world leader in the sector of machines for the production of wires and cables, involving a large chain of partners. Advanced engineering and artisanal cutting for Samp, engaged in the technology of wire drawing, extrusion and cable production. There are entrepreneurial stories that live in what we can define as the frontier of the future, in a constant balance between multiple worlds. The one we are about to tell has deep roots in the Emilian community – just think: almost a century of history! – and at the same time it looks to the future. A long tradition linked to innovative engineering and at the same time to the Italian artisan matrix. It seems paradoxical, but these two worlds can – indeed must – talk to each other. Today more than ever. This is what happens in Samp, a world leader in the production of machines and technologies for electrical cables and wires with a strong international presence.
History declined in the plural. We are in Bentivoglio, a town of six thousand souls in the metropolitan area of Bologna, in that very green plain lapped by the Navile canal, which since ancient times brought water to the Reno river. Here is also located one of the main production plants of the company recognised globally in the design and production of precision equipment for making wires and cables. Here the life cycle is monitored and spare parts and services are provided for a vast base of products installed over many years. By the way: it all started in 1936 between innovative engineering and artisanal vision. «Italian craftsmanship is pure innovation, each of our machines is designed and developed to be flexible and tailored to customers, but always trying to introduce new technologies thanks to the help of our engineers and our partners. Furthermore, having been established in the Bologna area and knowing its potential, as Samp, we decided to live more with the companies that are close to us, trying to grow together, developing new products and making group innovation.» This is what Matteo Nascetti, General Manager of Samp, a manager with twenty years of experience in the automatic machinery and precision mechanics sector, says. A company that recalls many others. This is why it is a story in the plural. «We are one of the few regional companies that has an international dimension thanks to the four branches present in the world, but at the same time a dynamism capable of offering opportunities to gain experience and growth paths at a speed completely different from those of large multinationals».
Company profile. The story - as often happens in the life of individuals and in that of companies - is made up of ups and downs. Here as a watershed there is a before and an after. The first phase up to 2023 was very complex. Then from 2023 with the new management the objectives were achieved and were exceeded. «These results were achieved thanks to a huge effort to rebuild the supply chain. Our suppliers, to whom much of these successes are due, today find in us a partner with whom they can grow together, not a customer with whom they can just do business», Nascetti specifies. And from his words emerges all the satisfaction of the restart. On the other hand, the market to which these machines are addressed is in a phase of change to which we must adapt quickly with new projects of machines and solutions. «For us, the district is essential: if we want to grow more and more, we must collaborate between companies, the outside world is really very competitive and only by teaming up and forming alliances will we be able to win and reach new goals in a district that gives us the fortune of being an inexhaustible source of talent», says Nascetti. The Group, acquired in 2021 by HVD Partners, has recorded an exponential increase. Today, the turnover is over 45 million euros for a technical and specialised staff of up to 110 people at the Bentivoglio headquarters and over 200 worldwide. In the meantime, we look to the future with an investment in the development of advanced software designed to improve the customer experience and optimise the performance of the machines, making production increasingly integrated and fluid. «The goal is always in that balance between engineering and craftsmanship: standardising the machines without sacrificing the flexibility that customers require, improving their quality and reducing costs», concludes Nascetti. Once again, the main road for excellent companies passes through the ability to listen to the market and the need to adapt quickly to new contexts.
