After all,
they are superheroes. Because today, to protect ourselves from the risks that
infest our web browsing - and those of companies - we need superpowers, which
then translate into advanced technologies and in excellent human capital.
Hi-tech products and hi-tech people. Perhaps this is the winning mix, or at
least that's what they think at Muscope, a start-up specialising in
cybersecurity born between 2021 and 2022. It all starts with four partners with
over twenty years of experience in the field of online security and network
infrastructures. «The intuition arose from a real case linked to the insurance
market: the company in question needed to analyse the cybersecurity of
companies before taking out the policy for them. This gave us the spark,
compared to the work we have done for twenty years, which is essentially
analysing and protecting companies from an IT security point of view, creating
a fast and intuitive service that allows us to see which risks companies are
exposed to.» Bruno Cordioli, one of the co-founders, tells us about it. Here
the vulnerabilities of companies are analysed to understand where the problems
lie through data and information. We are based in Milan and six employees work
here working for the B2B market. «Compared to the global market, the Italian
one is strongly linked to medium and small businesses and is of particular
interest for cyber criminals. All this, together with the lack of perception of
the problem, creates a perfect attack scenario. Our solution was designed for
large companies, but is also perfectly adaptable to small and medium-sized
businesses. We are currently focused on the Italian market, even if more than
half of our turnover already comes from other European countries», says
Cordioli.
People and
technologies. Everything starts with technology. Of course, then there are the
people who think about it, optimise it, test it,and measure it. But technology
is the distinctive element. In this start-up it takes the name of Muscope|Risk
and is a risk analysis platform, designed and created entirely by the
professionals who work in this field. The platform carries out an in-depth
assessment of any company, from the point of view of a cyber criminal. It
integrates attack perimeter analysis tools, also offering a ranking from 0 to
100 that measures a company's security posture. And then, among the many
features, there is the calculation of monetary risk: an estimate of the costs
that a company could sustain in the event of a cyber attack. «Compared to other
technological solutions, ours seeks to stand out for the ease of reading data
even by non-technical people, such as CEOs and financial managers. Another
fundamental and distinctive element is the speed with which the platform
provides the analysis, never exceeding twenty minutes. The repetitive nature of
the same analysis several times a month, in a completely automatic manner,
simplifies everything», specifies Cordioli. In short, cybersecurity is no
longer just a technical issue, but a business issue. The problem of Italy and
Europe, in terms of cybersecurity, is that the solutions available are limited,
and awareness must be increased. They repeat it like a mantra in Muscope. «The
problem of cybersecurity is currently immense and to solve it a single entity
is not enough, but a collaboration of multiple actors, Italian and European, is
needed. Our solution, for example, is used by other security companies to
monitor the security of the client as a whole. We ourselves recommend solutions
from other partners to our customers. The sense of community in the
cybersecurity field is fundamental to be able to fight against cyber criminals,
and thus far in Italy and Europe there is still a lot of work to be done in
this respect.» Bruno Cordioli says it bluntly. Cyber risk for a company is the
combination between the probability of a cyber incident occurring and the
extent of the potential financial and reputational impact on the organisation.
We no longer need to think about whether we will be attacked, but when we will
be attacked. «Cyber criminals are now real structured companies that do
business. The risks for companies are multiple: from data loss, to production
downtime, from loss of credibility, to economic sanctions.» Awareness is the
key word. And then there is that ability to smell danger. Just like superheroes
do. So says Cordioli. «We must have the sensitivity as a team to enter a little
into the minds of criminals and be able to anticipate their actions, through
our intuition, technology and services. Every day we face new challenges.»
