A company was born in Imola in the 1980s, now in its second generation and destined to continue its history over time. It's called Elsa Solutions, already listed on the stock exchange in the SME segment. Giampaolo Colletti interviews Daniela and Davide Dal Pozzo, Financial Director and CEO of Elsa Solutions, respectively, for FARE INSIEME

Santéran, they say in dialect. The people of Imola call it like
this affectionately. They love it because after all they consider it as part of
the family. But beware of underestimating it. Because the Santerno river –
Santéran, precisely – flows between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. It originates
in the Imola Apennines and flows into the Reno river. The hydrographic basin in
the Apennines stretch alone - from the source to Imola - is 423 km². But bare
in mind. If you calculate the stretch of plain it exceeds 700 km². It seems
small, but it isn't. Consider that Santerno is the largest tributary of the
Reno in terms of length and water flow. The quality of its waters, with the low
human activity of the valley it flows through, is among the best of Reno's tributaries.
But pay attention to what I am about to tell you: when it is born on the passo
della Futa, at around 900 metres above sea level, it is on an Apennine ridge,
in an amphitheatre of scaly clays. The spring is located just below the Futa
German military cemetery. From there it flows towards the Adriatic, first
forming a small ditch and then a stream. After a few hundred metres it makes a
sharp turn to the right and joins other ditches and streams that descend from
the other ridges of the pass. From here the Santerno begins to have a wider bed
and over time it swells. It grows in water flow and breadth. We said it before.
It seems small, but it isn't.
Company profile. From the river to the company. Well, what we are about to tell is
the story of Elsa Solutions, a small entrepreneurial reality that has become
large over time. Just like the Santerno river, which is also contained in the
name. We are in Imola and here, way back in 1982, two young start-uppers began
an adventure that still continues today with the second generation. Intuition
was born thanks to the territory: Imola, precisely. At the centre of everything
and also of the electronics hub. The Dal Pozzo family was not satisfied with
working in one of the existing industries. They wanted to do more. They wanted
to start their own business. This is how Commerciale Elsa was born, which is
today ELSA Solutions, an acronym deriving from previous experiences of father Enzo, already among the founders of
Elettronica Santerno, where he had taken his first steps. A rapidly growing
company was created together with
Deanna, passing the baton to his children, Daniela and Davide. Just like that
Santerno river that cuts through their beloved land. Consider that from 2
people the team grew to presently count up to over 40 collaborators. ELSA
Solutions specialises in the distribution and integration of motion control
solutions for mechanical systems. It develops a design, production and
marketing activity for energy storage systems and offers technical assistance,
commissioning, repair, maintenance and reconditioning of systems. It is a
historic company active in the industrial automation market. The headquarters
has a warehouse capacity of over 3000 square metres and a further expansion of
approximately 1500 square metres is currently being completed.
Batteries that make history.But
there is a further development, which is constituted by the line of Aliant
brand products, launched in 2009. These are lithium batteries and UPS systems
lasting 3 to 10 times longer than those with traditional technology. «Aliant
was born from a very simple, very complex and at the same time very intuitive
idea. The idea of someone who dedicated himself with passion and commitment to
the nascent lithium battery technology. The idea of a family that decided to
embark on a difficult path. The idea of a company that wanted to get involved
and differentiate its products and activities. This is the story of Aliant. A
story of technology, dedication, planning, stubbornness and above all a story
of passion», say Daniela and Davide Dal Pozzo, Financial Director and CEO of
Elsa Solutions, respectively, at the helm as the second generation. The new
division was born in 2009 and energises these systems. It deals with designing
and creating storage systems and lithium batteries, those usually simply known
as batteries. The batteries are then used in electric mobility with companies
that build waste collection machines, aerial platforms for moving, street
sweeping and more. A company shaped by the attention to the environment and by
the challenges related to sustainability. «We are lucky to make products
necessary for sustainability, so, unlike those who are closely linked to fossil
fuels, we make products such as electric engines and batteries, which are
essentially the necessary tool to then create more efficient systems. Systems,
therefore, with reduced consumption of energy and compared to other products
that are instead linked to decarbonisation», specify Daniela and Davide Dal
Pozzo. Today the company is listed on the Italian Stock Exchange in the SME
segment with a high growth potential. We still grow, just like that Santéran
who was born small and becomes big.
