A practice gathering multiple professionals - most of whom are women -
that opened in the heart of Bologna over thirty years ago. The work focuses on
the well-being of individuals and on health at the workplace. A pioneering and
visionary concept that has become very popular. For FARE INSIEME, Giampaolo

Well-being
means both physical and psychological well-being. It might be an easy concept
to grasp today, but it was an innovative and visionary concept in the year
2000. There is someone in Bologna who promoted it before others, becoming an
entrepreneur at the age of 30. What we are about to tell you is the story of a
pioneering idea that has now become very popular, of a teamwork that made the
difference and of a practice focused on prevention and health that would have
been unthinkable up until a few years ago. But let's proceed with order. This
story begins with Maurilio Missere, founder and director of Poliamblatorio
Giardini Margherita. Maurilio was a tough guy. Someone who does not give in and
that looks beyond appearances, catching sight of unthinkable opportunities. He
is now sixty, but he has had to work hard after being orphaned at a young age
and, after studying Medicine and Surgery, Maurilio Missere specialized in
occupational medicine. In this case too, he chose a new and little-trodden
path, just as pioneers do. He embarked on university activities in Sant’Orsola
and Rizzoli, two healthcare facilities in Bologna, but he had a different
dream, which combined entrepreneurial adventure and prevention, especially at
work. He started dealing with occupational medicine and prevention, even
collaborating with Ferrari, an iconic company envied by the whole world,
between 1996 and 2001. Then he set up his private practice. Everything started
with one partner and a secretary. The objective was to provide high-quality,
safety and well-being to employees. “From a physician, my dad went on to become
an entrepreneur. We could say he was a startupper, as he was a forerunner when
it comes to this concept. He is still a precious guide for me to this day,”
reports Eleonora Missere, now partner of Poliambulatorio Giardini Margherita.
The big picture. Everything started in
a small practice in via San Vitale, the road leading towards the Two Towers
that are the symbol of Bologna. Today, Poliambulatorio Giardini Margherita in
instead located in Via Santo Stefano no.103. This place too has a peculiar
history, as it is a former convent dating back to the 16th century and located
in the Bologna historic city centre. “We offer our patients high-quality
medical services in a single facility, making available the best specialists
for prevention, diagnosis and treatment in the main specialist fields:
dermatology, allergology, general surgery, cardiology, ultrasounds,
physiatrics, osteopathy, gynaecology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology,
urology, nutrition. We provide nursing services 6 days a week, plus home visits
and nursing assistance,” reports Missere.
Being there
is what makes a difference, and doing so in a different way compared to many
other practices. Because Poliambulatorio Giardini Margherita also carries out
occupational medicine services for businesses. “We provide complete assistance
when it comes to safeguarding the health and safety of workers in accordance
with current regulations. Services include health surveillance, consultations
on safety at work and the compliance with mandatory requirements for all types
of companies,” explains Missere. Among the objectives there is that of
preserving and promoting the physical well-being of workers in all sectors and
preventing damage caused by work. The practice is primarily operated by females:
the team is made up of specialist physicians, doctors specialized in
occupational medicine, nurses, auxiliary personnel and administrative personnel
internal to the facility, with a staff of over 40 people. The planning of
activities, management of deadlines and planning of surveillance are managed
internally with the support of IT systems and professional tools.
At the service of companies. Occupational medicine, as we were saying
before. The prancing horse figures among the companies that the practice works
with. So the collaboration with the corporate management when it comes to
prevention and protection forms part of the “Formula Uomo” service, a corporate
activity reserved to the Ferrari people. “All of this is made possible by an
integrated health and safety system: the synergy of a company doctor leads to
an exponential benefit and to the resolution of issues that can occur everyday
in such a complex structure. In addition, the constant team work makes it
possible to achieve a dynamic health protocol, respect health surveillance
timeframes and address issues promptly with a continued information flow,”
concludes Missere. Employees are therefore monitored at the workplace both in
Italy and abroad, safeguarded as they travel the world following Formula 1 and
Ferrari events. Once again, being there is what makes a difference.
