Unity is strength. It may seem like a simple slogan,
but it is a mantra for some companies. Or even more. A winning strategy. Because,
now more than ever in such connected and accelerated times, reasoning in plural
terms enables the achievement of incredible results and unthinkable goals. It
is the team that wins, which becomes diversified teams. This is the story of One Express, a company from Bologna set
up in 2007 by eight partners and specializing in pallet shipments, made up of 135
affiliates. “Each sender affiliate
delivers its clients’
goods
on pallets to the One Express Hubs which act as unloading, sorting and
reloading centres to the destination affiliate for thousands of pallets every
night,” explains Claudio
Franceschelli, president of One Express. The headquarters are located at the
Interporto di Bologna, where there are two hubs covering 14 thousand sqm each. Then
we have another hub south of Milan which we inaugurated last year. The turnover
is €100 million with a forecast of €118 million. The team is made up of sixty
employees, twenty more than last year. “Every day we depart for all of Europe, transporting
goods on pallets: France, Germany, England, Belgium and Holland. This way, company
logistics becomes more efficient and safe because it minimizes the risk of
damage and operational problems, it simplifies shipment management and contains
costs,” stresses
Franceschelli. Over time, One Express has become the point of reference for
logistics. We have three national hubs in Bologna, Milan and Naples. But also 135
affiliates throughout the national territory and 1.200 vehicles on
the road every day.
Europe that moves. Since 2012, we
also have the international network. Again, the work comes from alliances: “Today, One Express is a
dynamic business that is constantly growing and capable of guaranteeing an
express pallet service throughout Europe. Our system avoids technical rebounds
and uses other prominent pallet networks with which we have established solid
partnerships as a gateway therefore improving the swiftness and punctuality of
delivery operations,”
says
Franceschelli. This is how 2012 ALLNET - The Alliance of Networks was born - a
pan-European network that combines leading businesses on the Italian, French, German
and English market so that, together, they can guarantee unified pallet
distribution standards all over Europe. Plus an industrial dimension: 41 countries
covered, 18 international hubs, 347 distribution points, 28,000 collaborators
and over 9 million pallets handled every year.
The strength of pallets. Everything starts
from a means that helps to lower real and environmental cots. After all, pallets
are flat structures used to place goods on. A pallet is the structural
foundation of a loading unit that enables handling and storage using tools such
as forklifts. It was invented in the 20th century but, over the past few years,
it has replaced storage systems such as wooden boxes and barrels. The idea
comes from the civil field, taking inspiration from the US army during the
Second World War: placing the supplies to be transported to Europe on wooden
platforms helped save time and isolate the goods from the ground. Everything
still passes through shipments today. Because, even if it may seem a paradox in
such connected times, goods and people still travel. “We are the
protagonists of an operating model that was even Brexit-proof. While some
forwarders had suspended deliveries to the UK, we were able to guarantee
continuity of transport during a delicate moment of transition, opening up new
scenarios for national logistics. You need to take care of all the paperwork
first, including invoices, then you deliver,” stresses
Franceschelli. In the future too, according to the top manager, speed will have
to be necessarily linked to quality. “The market has grown
and it has changed a lot. Everything has become quicker, pallets have made
everything perform better even in people’s minds. But speed
and quality means following the goods, being proactive and listening to the
market,” concludes Franceschelli. The right path is that
of a job well done.
