In the 1960s, a company was born in the Emilia-Romagna region that today serves the main European markets for the various utilities. Today the company has 120 employees with a 2021 turnover of 37.5 million euros and a strong growth forecast for 2022 of around 55 million euros. Technologies, but above all people. Here already in the past – before others and better than others – it was decided to distribute a percentage of Ebitda to all employees. This is the story of a company that decided to challenge the giants. But it is also the story of how markets and turnover can be scaled, despite being smaller in size than other international companies, reaching every corner of the world. All you need is: ingenious intuitions, cutting-edge technologies and advanced infrastructures, and passionate and competent people. And then again the ability to customise products and services. Because it is that attention to detail that always makes the difference. This is the story of Tironi, excellence in power transformers. The company operates in the production of electrical transformers mainly for the transmission, distribution and production of electricity from both renewable and traditional sources. The company was founded in Modena in 1960. The success of this Emilian miracle known today throughout the world - the most important customers are the main utilities - lies in a mix of winning solutions. Today Tironi has 120 employees with a 2021 turnover of 37.5 million euros and a strong growth forecast for 2022 of around 55 million euros. From Emilia to the whole world. Since this reality exports more than 70% of its turnover to the major customers in northern Europe: Scandinavia, The Netherlands, UK. «We produce electric power transformers: these are large machines installed in power plants. In fact, they are huge machines, like those seen on the motorway carried on exceptional transport, i.e. machines designed to customer specifications. After all, they are almost all prototypes. Our DNA is that of a family of technicians, with a great focus on the product which must be of high quality and with the least possible impact throughout its life cycle. In addition to this, there is also the mission of being a reliable partner for our customers. All this with an eye always on the local reality to which we belong and to which we want to be an active part», says Matteo Tironi, Chief Executive Officer of Tironi.

The history.
It all started from the Tironi family, first from the great-grandfather Carmelo and later from the grandfather Luciano. A family of engineers who had the brilliant intuition to open a transformer factory in Modena after the Second World War. Carmelo had a great passion for electromechanical equipment, but it all started as early as the 1930s, when the two founders, grandfather and father, respectively, of the current Chairman Maurizio Tironi already held positions of responsibility in other companies in the sector. The entry into the company of the current Chairman in 1972 revitalised the company, giving way to a series of important real estate and technological investments. New investments began with the arrival of the 2000s and the entry into the company of Matteo and Marco Tironi, the fourth generation of the family business. Since 2010, the production area has been doubled, the third test room for very high voltage transformers has been inaugurated and the company has been equipped with the latest technologies available: a white room for winding, a treatment plant and hovercraft wagons for handling large and very large units.

Research, technologies, people.
Never stop investing with passion, resources and time. This is the key to facing (and winning) the challenges with the great global giants. «This is why research and development are extremely important to us, given that we have very large and structured competitors and customers ask us for the same level of cutting-edge technology. At the moment we are very dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of transformers and to digitising all the sensors on board the machine», explains Tironi. Here already in the past – before others and better than others – it was decided to distribute a percentage of Ebitda to all employees. «Ours is an extremely artisanal job, without automatic machines and that therefore requires the presence of specialised technicians trained specifically for this product. As a company we strongly believe in the opportunities offered by a good corporate welfare project. Already in 2010 we received an award from the province of Modena for the internal welfare project. Over the years this has also changed based on listening to our employees. At the moment the most heartfelt benefits are linked to shopping and petrol vouchers, but everything is constantly evolving. The real difference will increasingly be the ability to attract new figures», concludes Tironi. Technologies and above all people. This is how one becomes an excellence in the world.
