In San Pietro in Casale, just over twelve thousand inhabitants in the Bologna area, exactly fifty years ago a company was born that rewrote the rules of the game in vacuum science. Because DVP Vacuum Technology makes oil free and lubricated vacuum pumps. As well as accessories and spare parts. This is how winning ideas are made. They appear when you least expect them
and they make the difference. Because they don’t ask for permission and they
enable innovation, not only of a company, but of an entire sector. And more. A
community. Basically, this is the history of DVP pumps and compressors. A story
of technology that improves the production processes. Making them safe,
effective, innovative. In San Pietro in Casale, with just over twelve thousand
inhabitants located near Bologna, there is a team of experts who have been
committed to cultivating “the science of vacuum” for the last fifty years.
Because it designs oil free and lubricated pumps from scratch. As well as
accessories and spare parts. The areas of application of DVP Vacuum Technology
range from packing to bottling, extraction, compression, lifting, handling, oxygenation
and drying. Ranging from industry to scientific experimentation. The products
are tailor-made, based on specific requests processed by DVP LAB, DVP’s
Research and Innovation lab that works to ensure the best performances. “In the rest of the world, structures
are more complex, whereas we are able to compete and win many of the global
challenges because we are leaner and more flexible. Also because the larger and
more articulated the structure, the more complex it becomes. Context makes the
difference, and it has always been easy to find any mechanical component
nearby,” says Roberto Zucchini, Chairman & CEO of DVP Vacuum Technology.
The history. It all began in that year 1973
that would make history and much more. The initial insight? Brilliant.
Supplying hard-to-find products to local industry at a competitive cost. Easy
to say, harder to do. But we managed. At the time, Mario Zucchini spotted a
tacit need and was then able to interpret the product in a new key. A new way
of working based on compact solutions, supply flexibility and adaptation to the
client's needs. “Everything
starts from a solid base, but also from dedication and passion. The region of Emilia provided a
sound foundation on which to establish the company as the local mechanical
know-how offered experience and availability of components for the construction
of vacuum pumps”, says
Zucchini. From the past to the present. The most common applications are food
applications, aimed at improving food preservation, followed by medical,
cosmetic and hospital applications. And again, there are those linked to the
CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) sector, for example, woodworking, glass
working and marble working machines. And then there are the more specialised
ones, such as household waste compaction, vegetable sterilisation without
chemicals or carrying out blood tests. “The company's DNA is made up of market
expertise, constantly listening to the customer and finding dedicated
solutions. The levers of our innovation are based on materials, industrial and
management processes. Not just technology, but also, and above all, human
capital”, points out Zucchini. Today, the investment in research is close to 5%
of the overall turnover and this has led to DVP's inclusion on the list of
innovative SMEs. The company provides consultancy services both in the product
design or co-design phase and in the supply phase. “The clients are often manufacturers of complex
machines that incorporate the pump in their machine. We also serve Value-Added
Resellers (VAR) and large end users who have purchased complex products on
which pumps are installed that require maintenance”, says Zucchini.
Machines and people. A balance of human capital and technology. “Technology helps
achieve consistent performance and avoids repetitive work. It is therefore not
in competition, but becomes a tool in the hands of the operators.
Traditionally, we tend to adapt to the new conditions by not taking anything
for granted, and for the future we are increasingly presenting ourselves as a
valid alternative to large international players, offering competitive
conditions. Products will be increasingly adapted to market demands. DVP will
increasingly be recognised as an industry excellence at a global level”,
says Zucchini. Utmost attention also to the environment: every person and every
corporate function pursues the goals of UN Agenda 2030 and the Green New Deal
according to the Environment, Social and Governance approach. “And since we are
used to backing up our promises with actions, we have undertaken various
commitments, including that of reducing CO2 emissions by 5% in the next 5
years. We can do it», concludes Zucchini.
