Everything comes to life as far back as 1976 in a
joiner’s workshop as big as the dreams that would have come true over the
years. We are located in Bologna, in the Santa Viola neighbourhood, in that
patch of land between Porta San Felice and the Reno river, historically a zone
of passage between city and countryside, along the via Emilia in which
relationships have always been woven. At the time, the joiner’s workshop was
generic, without too many strange ideas. But you could have already guessed its
potential. Because, from time to time and upon request, the joiner’s workshop
supplied packaging to various local businesses. Then in 1978 with Fabio Sgarzi,
who was only nineteen years old at the time, the business shed its skin, moving
the production to Anzola Emilia, in that new industrial pole that marked the
history of the company. This is how Sgarzi Packing evolved towards its mature
phase, which today can be considered an excellence in the production of
industrial packaging, wooden cages and crates, and logistics services. But the
intuition at the time was to close two negotiations with two Bolognese
packaging companies. The most important of the two was then entirely taken over
with staff, machinery and customers. So the commercial presence in the area
strengthened over time. «At the time, the industrial world of machinery was
booming and we began to provide the first storage and packaging services to the
customer», says Fabio Sgarzi, owner of the company. IT and real estate
investments were strengthened. And “Ingegno” (Talent) was born, a platform made
up of various applications that will give rise to the entire corporate
organisational structure. In 2014 there are three generations at work: Mario,
Fabio and Sergio Sgarzi. In 2019 the new wooden packaging production plant was
born in Valsamoggia. Today the company has three logistic centres in
Valsamoggia, in Anzola dell’Emilia and in Gattatico, in the province of Reggio
Emilia, for a total of approximately 8,500 covered square metres. Three 4.0
plants have also established, which are directly managed from the Anzola
headquarters.
Research equals innovation. Behind the activity
of this company lies the strong commitment to research and development. «We
dedicate more than 3% of our turnover to innovation, studying and perfecting
tools suitable for optimising the business processes, with a view to
technological evolution», Sgarzi specifies. Once again, the winning formula is to
try to intercept high-growth realities. «Thanks to our Ingegno application, we
know how to tackle this type of activity in a pioneering way: through the
management of materials, the optimisation of work based on flows, services and
materials paid exclusively on a pay-per-use basis, shipment data processed in
statistics passed on to the customer according to the specifications suitable
for the individual use.» On the other hand, to work with an aim towards
excellence you need Ingegno (i.e. Talent),
but in this case with a capital I. They are convinced of this in Sgarzi. So
about ten years ago, after a thorough analysis of the sector and the market,
the company understood that it was the right time to come up with something new
and break out of the box. Hence the need to engage with talent - after all, the
word ‘Ingegno’ (talent) encapsulates a passion for what the company does best -
which led to the creation of the Ingegno platform.. Nomen omen (true to its name), the Latins would say, because the platform
is enriched by several applications - today there are about fifteen of them -
born right within the company. «It is an integrated, dynamic platform that
changes and adapts to the evolution of the market, the customer, the order, the
action or the process. Let’s say that, in a tailored way, we organised
ourselves by developing ideas and solutions that in this container that is the
platform are never lost, never transcribed and give rise in an evolved way to
processes, rules, data processing, preventive automatisms, offering us and our
customers statistics, operational solutions, speed of action, simplifications,
traceability, cost centres, analyses, and total transparency. It is a real
organisation of all the processes, from when they are born to when they end»,
Sgarzi explains. In the future there is a real, not apparent, focus on the
environment. On the other hand, everything is measurable with wood, from
procurement to use. «Our goal is to bring innovation and organisation, using
advanced technological systems for the optimisation of all the processes,
providing customers with services at the highest level of quality and working
in a system of transparency and legality.» Once again, the compass guiding the
choices of companies of excellence is based on listening and customer
satisfaction.
