Excellence made in Modena

15/04/2020

“The timing may not be the best, but it is a great honour for me to be listed among the Modena excellencies.” The general situation may not be particularly uplifting , but Gianmarco Messori is still in good spirits despite the effect of the quarantine on life and production The April issue of “Gentleman”, the monthly publication by Milano Finanza, dedicated two pages to him that are a hymn to the creativity and elegance of his tailor’s shop.

I have always celebrated tradition in every piece of clothing so as to promote ‘Italianness’, the real luxury of our country,” states the CEO. “This is why I am really proud to see my work recognised - thank you Gentleman. One thing is certain, my collaborators and I never give up an inch.”

Days are passing by slowly, but Gianmarco Messori has found a way to cheat the apparent stillness of this non-time. “The contact with clients and my travels abroad are the heart of my business and I miss them a lot. But, at the moment, we need to work with what we have: social media have become my eyes, arms and mouth.

Since the start of the pandemic, Gianmarco has already published four video snippets on Facebook in his role as arbiter elegantiarium. Three-dimensional tie-knots, handkerchiefs and cuff links - every piece of advice combines elegance with the latest trends. Videos are no longer than 30 seconds so as to be in synch with the speed of the media and its users.

Giorgio Armani’s letter/rant to Women’s Wear Daily did not go unnoticed. “A tsunami, a punch in the gut to the fashion system but, at the same time, a breath of fresh air for those who wish to continue using their heads in a free selfless manner,” states Gianmarco Messori. “Giorgio Armani considers the priorities when the Coronavirus emergency will cease. It is a letter that must be read and re-read - luxury lost its sense since fast fashion emerged focusing everything on quantity. We need to buy less and, possibly, buy better. Purchasing few nice things that are made well taking the advice of competent people should no longer be taboo in 2020.”

Messori was founded in 1976 in Fiorano Modenese by Lanfranco Messori and Germana Martinelli, who have always believed ‘Italianness’ is an essential value to offer to the international clientèle. The basic values on which the fashion house built its reputation and reliability are capillary distribution, attendance of the leading sector fairs, fashion shows and flagship stores.
