CRP Technology introduces Windform® RS, the new composite material

03/06/2021

CRP Technology launches Windform® RS, the carbon fibre filled composite material with unparalleled and exceptional mechanical characteristics, capable of superior performance, on the Additive Manufacturing market.

Windform® RS is the tenth material in the Windform® TOP-LINE range, created and developed by CRP Technology for 3D printing fibre-reinforced polymer composites using the Powder Bed Fusion process.

Its Technical Director and CEO Franco Cevolini, states: "CRP Technology’s propensity to innovate and provide top-notch technological solutions is always at work, and the Windform® RS proves it. We have managed to create a material with a very high tensile strength (85.25 MPa) that at the same time has excellent ductility (elongation at break of 9.46%) and a low density (1.10 g/cc). There is no material in the Additive Manufacturing market today that can compete with Windform® RS: the combination of high strength and high resilience makes it unique."

Windform® RS is a material resistant to damage, shock, vibration, deformation and high temperatures.  Its resilience properties are effective even below zero;
"It has been successfully tested at -40°C", Cevolini points out, "it is waterproof from as little as 1 millimetre thick, and is classified HB according to the UL 94 flammability standard."

In addition, Windform® RS has excellent machinability during the construction of the parts: "This is a very important feature that should not be underestimated,  Cevolini specifies. Many materials on the market claim high performance, but then are difficult to machine and so, during the manufacture of the part, there may be difficulties that result in a poor final quality. This is not the case with Windform® RS and all our materials: Windform® offers high performance and maintains good machinability, which results in a superior end product.

In terms of applications, Windform® RS is used in the construction of critical parts and end-use applications for the most demanding industries such as Aerospace, Defence, Robotics, Motorsport, Automotive, Marine.

It is ideal for heavy-duty applications that withstand harsh conditions, accurate, reliable and durable functional prototypes, custom and pre-series production.
